- .Maps
- Coast Realty map of Gabriola Island in pdf format. This is an older map - it does not show some of the latest roads. Also, it shows roads where, in reality, they do not exist. Still, keeping these cautions in mind, it is a clear, easy-to-use map for finding streets.
- Dee Lauder map of Gabriola Island is the best all-purpose map that I am aware of. It is also more up-to-date and accurate than the Coast Realty map in portraying Gabriola's road system. Below the map there is a statement that the "page" was updated in October 2009. However, the map is slightly out-of-date since it does not include a few changes to the trail and park system since 2006. Although there is a road index, the section numbers beside the road names do not have corresponding numbers on the map.
- The GALTT trail map is the authoritative Gabriola map on the publicly-owned land trail system. It has great descriptions of the trails as well.
- Google Map of Gabriola Island contains inaccuracies in its portrayal of the road system and does not contain the wonderful content of Dee Lauder's map. Its value lies in the Satellite and Terrain versions.

Community Festivals and Tours
Once the festival or tour is over, the web site remains, and is not updated for the next event until much later. There is value in this practice, as one can get, by looking at the "old" site, a very good impression of what the next tour or festival will be all about.

There are many other organizations and agencies, aside from those listed below, that affect the governance of Gabriola Island. Some are too far removed from immediate Island life to be mentioned here (eg. the web sites of the Federal Government or Her Majesty the Queen) and others are mentioned elsewhere in this directory. Personal Sites
On the sites included under this heading, people communicate about matters of personal interest or concern through the written word and images. They use a range of formats from standard types of web sites to blogs to postings, by individuals on sites such as flickr, where membership gives them a personal web presence. Not all blogs are listed below. For example, most of the Island's real estate agents maintain blogs. For those see the web sites of individual agents in the real estate section of this Directory. You'll come across blogs in some other sections as well.
- .Photos and Videos
- Diving in Victoria by Mark Hiebert. Click "Enter" and then go down to "Gabriola Island" to see some fantastic photos of dives at Orlebar, Malaspina Point and Dragon's Lane. Instead of merely pointing to these three parts of the site dealing with Gabriola, I have selected the whole site, as there is so much more of interest presented. Stay awhile and browse!
- flickr Contributors to this web site, both Gabriolans and visitors, have posted over 6,000 photos categorized under "gabriola".

Web Directories - Gabriola and Other Gulf Islands
For Gabriola Island I list all directories I'm aware of, whether commercial or not. For other Gulf Islands I list only those directories that are non-profit, like this Directory. As for the Open Directory Project, it fails to provide complete listings for the Islands, but it is better than any for-profit effort.
- Creative Directory of the Gabriola Arts Council is a very comprehensive list of Gabriola's artists, not all of whom have web sites, and therefore are not listed in the Gabriola Web Directory. It lists those who are members of the Gabriola Arts Council.
- Gabriola Island B & B Association calls itself a "comprehensive listing" but it lists only about one third of the Island's Bed & Breakfast establishments.
- Gabriola Island Chamber of Commerce Aside from some non-profit organizations, the site lists only Chamber members.
- Gabriola.org is both a web directory and a general directory; it's well worth a visit!
- Mayne Island Great site, Monica!
- Open Directory Project - Galiano Island
- Open Directory Project - Salt Spring Island
- Open Directory Project - Saturna Island
- Pender Island Community Network
- Thetis Island This is a comprehensive resource on behalf of the Thetis Island Community Association.

Inclusion Guidelines
1. The Gabriola Web Directory is not a commercial site or a site that exists to promote an individual or a cause. To have a Gabriola Internet site listed, I do not ask the site's owner for membership in any organization or for financial contributions, and no one can buy an enhanced profile or an advertisement.
2. The Gabriola Web Directory lists mainly sites by individuals and organizations based on Gabriola Island.
3. The Directory lists some off-Island sites if those sites contribute directly to Gabriola Island life.
Copyright
I believe that information (in contrast to personal creations such as scholarly publications, works of fiction, photographs, etc.) should be shared freely for the benefit of all. There is no attempt to copyright the Directory; likely it would not be possible in any case, as the content can be reconstructed by anyone who does a bit of searching on the web. Accordingly, the listings are free for visitors to use or copy. If you wish to give me credit for any borrowings, I'd be pleased, it might be the courteous thing to do, but it's not strictly necessary.
I hope that you'll enjoy paging through the Directory and find as much joy in some of the hidden treasures here as I have.
